Google has announced that it’s open source web browser platform Chromium (the framework behind Google’s Chrome browser) will be dropping support for the popular h.264 HTML video codec – favoring Google’s own WebM platform (based on the VP8 codec which Google acquired in 2009).

The reasons for the drop in support of this widely popular video codec, have been explained in the official Chromium blog, and the main standpoint Google has, is on the issue of “innovation in the web media platform“. Bing, Microsoft’s Search Engine, has announced an even deeper integration of Facebook into it’s service by implementing Facebook “Likes” further into it’s search results.

Currently, there is a designated area of Bing search results showing “liked” content from your Facebook friends. But Bing says that (for US users only at the moment) this will be changing – with the “like” buttons appearing in-line along with your search results.

News has surfaced that Facebook, the World’s largest social networking site, is getting a pretty impressive (albeit, potentially controversial) update to it’s Facebook Photos product.

The update will suggest friends to tag in uploaded pictures, by using  facial recognition software “built in-house”.

Unbeknown to some, this auto-tagging system is already available – through 3rd party websites such as Face.com.

This feature will surely add fuel to privacy war Facebook finds itself constantly battling, however Facebook has assured users on it’s official blog, that  users will be able to opt-out of their name being suggested…
